IOVA GROUP
The Second Annual ÍOVA exhibition is taking place in the 39/40 music venue (formerly the Voodoo Lounge) on Culture Night 2021. ÍOVA originated at John Gunn’s camera shop on Wexford Street in Dublin sometime in the middle of 2018. This local community of photography enthusiasts, film and camera collectors became increasingly acquainted while conversing with staff and each other. Spontaneous conversations led to arranged talks, group meet ups and photo walks, and we eventually elected to formalize their group into ÍOVA. In just two short years, what started as a small group of artists who were exchanging photography influences, methods, and techniques quickly grew into a group of over 40 members, often having large meetings and events including informative talks, guided gallery tours, and the presentation and discussion of members’ work. Group members include photography professionals such as Ishmael Claxton, Christopher Lindhorst, Letizia Lopreiato, Seán Breithaupt and Fionn McCann. A number of prints will be available for sale on the night. ÍOVA looks forward to seeing you there.
The Theme – 100 Years Later
In the centennial of independence, Ireland has seen a rapid transformation to its cultural landscapes. Even now, as the country continues to evolve at a rapid rate, Ireland finds itself in a contemporary era that encompasses changing demographics & a plethora of new social norms. The impact such changes have on the behaviours and attitudes of its people’s daily lives are substantial. Following on from the inaugural Culture Night exhibition last year, this new exhibition will present work produced by members to reflect these evolving perspectives. From perceptions of racial and gender identity to cultural and religious affiliations, the exhibition aims to explore the multitude of perceptions and experiences associated with the current cultural and artistic mosaic that is living in Ireland, 100 Years Later.
